Drama: Anne Frank: 6.) Why are there so many books, movies, documentaries, etc. about the Holocaust? Why do we keep retelling this story?

I really don't know why we retell the horrible stories of individuals and others. However, I have some guesses that might be accurate. Firstly, I think that it is used as a reminder to say that this was not just like killing guilty people these people were innocent. I think that we need to tell kids and adults that do not be prejudice person or a racist. Secondly, I think that we might never know the true horrors of these people but we need to prevent these things from happening ever again, so to do that we need to retell these horrible stories, to keep these people alive and not just something like a fairytale. Thirdly, I think that it is a way to respect the people who died or survived but felt great pain. We need to keep them alive so their legacy lives. Since we do not know all the people who died during this horrible event, we must respect them by reading their stories and how we should not let prejudice run over us. Also, we know that by these events, we got to learn how powerful one person can be. I think that personally, Hitler was a bit crazy because he got hated from his father and because of that he failed to pass an art exam several times. Fourthly, by this event, we know that prejudice is never good. Eventually time would pass but the horrors will still stay, to teach everyone don't be a racist and we should prevent such mass killings as the Holocaust from being done. By not preventing, the stories of these people's lives will be lost and when enough time passes it could happen again. Just like the last time. So keeping it alive will prevent another mass killing of innocent lives. I think that we should always keep these people's stories alive so we won't have such things as the Holocaust happen.

If you could interview survivors of the Holocaust, what would you ask them?

I would ask them these questions:
  • How did you feel when you look back at the Holocaust?
  • What would you what to say to the world about the Holocaust?
  • Do you feel when people ask you about your experience?
  • Did you ever go to a concentration or death camp?
  • Do you feel like you can relate to Anne Frank?
  • What happened to your family?
  • Did you ever visit back the places you've been to, for example like you hiding place during the war or the camp you were at?
  • If you are not a Jew, did you help other Jews?
  • Why did you stay and not leave Europe for other Hitler free countries, if you are a Jew?
  • What do you want to say to the people who harmed the innocent people?
  • If this happened again, how would you react?
  • What was the hardest part of living during this horrible event?

Drama: Anne Frank: 5K

Act 1: Scene 4,5: Describe the reversal - the sudden change in the characters' fortune - that is central to Scene 5. How did it make you feel?

The reversal in Scene 5 is when they are celebrating Hanukkah and a thief is heard opening the door to the whole building not the Annex. In the movie version, police officers comes into the scene and makes it a life to death situations for them since Mr. Frank and Peter and Anne are not in the Annex. When the first police officer goes out Mr. Frank and Peter and Anne all go to the Annex safe from being found. However, Mouschi eats the food on a plate and while he is eating it it goes into the sink and makes a huge sound, but meows so they aren't so suspicious. I n the play version, there is no police and Mouschi does not make a huge sound. This tenstion made me feel as nerves as the people in the Annex. When that part was over, I was gald that no one was found. When I was watching the movie, I was holding my breath because I was afraid they would get found.

Drama: Anne Frank: 5G

Anne is a dynamic character; that is, she changes in the course of the play. What does Anne's gift giving reveal about her? How do her gifts to her mother and Peter show that she has changed?

Anne's gift giving reveals that she has decided to try to like new people and understand that some people will not think the same things as her. When she gave her mother a present it showed that she is trying harder to be more nicer to her and is giving her a try, so she can be kind. I think that the trying part was really good because she just didn't think about it and start to cut out her mother, but tried to accept her.

The gift to Peter told to Peter and the others Anne can change her thoughts about people who are not like her. Also, it showed her love and kindness to Peter. Since at the beginning, Anne did not know Peter and did not appreciate that he wasn't used to girls and having company, her thoughts about others greatly changed. I think that by giving a more meaningful gift to Peter he got a feel that she liked him and respected him.

Drama: Anne Frank: 5F.

Describe how the Hanukkah celebration in Scene 5 is interrupted. How does Peter do to make matters worse? According to Dussel, how will this incident lead to their discovery by the police?

The Hanukkah celebration is interrupted by a thief who takes the money from the building, but first makes a huge noise by making something crash. Ironically, this happens when Mr. Frank is about to blow out the candles. When Peter is about the put the light out, he scares the thief away, because he falls causing the thief to run out of the building without closing the door. Mr. Dussel accuses Peter of them being in great danger than before because someone knows that they are there. Also, that thief might come back again, or that thief might notify the Green Police which will get not only the people living in the Annex sent off to camps but also the people who helped them, Miep and Mr. Kraler. Mr. Dussel thinks that the thief will go to the Green Police and say "'I was robbing a place the other night and I heard a noise up over my head?'"(pg. 408). Mr. Dussel also thinks that the thief will make a deal with the Green Police by saying that he will tell where people are hiding in exchange, he get away with thievery.

Drama: Anne Frank: 5A.

Act 1: "But remember this Anneke. There are no walls, there are not bolts, no locks that anyone can put on your mind." Explain what you think this statement means. Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not?

I agree with this statement because there really is nothing that stops you from thinking the way you think. Also, no one can lock you thoughts because you are an individual and everyone is unique. People can think whatever they want so they cannot put any bolts, walls, or locks on it. Since the Franks are in a suitation where they cannot freely do as they wish, their minds are something that the other people cannot take control of. The Nazis can take away their pride, identity, or freedom, but they cannot take away the people's minds and lock it away so it will not be seen. Also, the Jews are in such a condition, I think that it was especially important to let Anne know that no one, not even you parents, can make you think a certain way, also, because they were so restricted, it was important to tell her, "Hey, you still have your mind and that is the greatest thing of all, who cares about that we have no freedom, we still have the freedom to think freely." So, I think that this is similar to our world today. The world may tell you to be something or someone and be this and that, but cannot wall, blot, or lock your thoughts from you. It's that individual's decision to follow or rebel against the world, sort of like what Anne did, she did not let the Nazis or her parents block or lock or wall her thoughts.

Drama:Anne Frank: 4C.) Dramatic Irony: What do we know as we read Anne's diary that Anne does not know? How does the dramatic irony make you feel?

When we are reading the diary, we know that from the beginning Anne dies, while Anne still has hope left in her after she finds out what really is going on outside. We also know that Anne has so much hope that she will survive through the hardships and be able to tell her story. We also know the true horrors of what is happening to the outside world, beyond the Secret Annex. Since we know the truth about the outside world and about the fate of Anne and her family, I feel like that a person like Anne is like losing someone who is important and dear to many. I felt angered that such people like Anne were just killed without a second thought. It's like saying they are civilized but in reality they act worse than barbarians. I also felt sad that such a bright girl had to die because of the mass killing.
