Drama: Anne Frank: 5F.

Describe how the Hanukkah celebration in Scene 5 is interrupted. How does Peter do to make matters worse? According to Dussel, how will this incident lead to their discovery by the police?

The Hanukkah celebration is interrupted by a thief who takes the money from the building, but first makes a huge noise by making something crash. Ironically, this happens when Mr. Frank is about to blow out the candles. When Peter is about the put the light out, he scares the thief away, because he falls causing the thief to run out of the building without closing the door. Mr. Dussel accuses Peter of them being in great danger than before because someone knows that they are there. Also, that thief might come back again, or that thief might notify the Green Police which will get not only the people living in the Annex sent off to camps but also the people who helped them, Miep and Mr. Kraler. Mr. Dussel thinks that the thief will go to the Green Police and say "'I was robbing a place the other night and I heard a noise up over my head?'"(pg. 408). Mr. Dussel also thinks that the thief will make a deal with the Green Police by saying that he will tell where people are hiding in exchange, he get away with thievery.
